The Uprising Of Racism In America

By Blogger Nola W.

As a blogger, I frequently draft subjects I want to speak on and what is important in society as of people can relate. It took time to finally decide to touch on a topic and issue that has been happening for centuries and even in today’s society is racism.

“Southern trees bear a strange fruit, blood on the leaves and blood at the root, black bodies swinging in the southern breeze. Strange fruit handing for the poplar trees.” -Billy Holiday

The ugly history and hidden truth have not been taught in classrooms and the continuous oppression that is against Black Americans is growing. Reading and watching clips of the news of Black men and women are being missing, murdered and lynched by the hands of the suspected white supremacists gives me anger, depression and eagerness for change. I often question whether is history repeating itself of what our grandparents and the ancestors had went through before us. Why aren’t there any anti-laws to protect us blacks? Why is there continued recorded police brutality and no repercussions for their actions? Why is there a problem for Black Americans to receive reparations that are owed? Why is Black history is being removed for textbooks and being taught in classrooms in some states?

These are just a few questions I wonder to myself and try to voice out the problem which is to point out the uprising of racism in America. America, we have a problem.

“The price that America must pay for the continued oppression of the Negro and other minority groups is the price of its own destruction.”
– Martin Luther King Jr.
